The Ultimate Retreat Packing List
We’ve put together the ultimate packing list for any retreat so you don’t have to sweat the small stuff and focus on preparing your mind and body for a positive experience and transformation.
While many of our retreats have all you need in terms of equipment, you might want to bring along a few things from home to ensure your mind, body, and spirit are cared for during your retreat.
1. A Retreat Journal
We recommend taking a journal on your retreat so that you can make notes of anything you learn along the way. You may also feel a rush of creative energy to write, scribble, and make notes, so it’s alway good to have one packed just in case.
It’s also a lovely opportunity for you to make notes of your retreat experience so you can look back on your time and remind yourself of the transformation, intentions, or goals you want to work towards.
2. Comfortable Clothes
Pack what makes you feel comfortable for every activity: from swimwear and yoga gear, to tracksuit pants and cardigans. You will see that the retreat environment is an open and inviting one that will encourage you to think less about the exterior and more about the interior. And don’t forget your favorite PJs!
3. Comfortable Shoes
This is dependent on what activities the retreat will hold, and on the retreat destination itself, but we highly recommend you bring flip-flops and joggers as a minimum. That way you are prepared for your pamper, water and sauna activities, and your movement and adventure activities.
Retreats will also advise if there are any out of the ordinary footwear requirements.
4. Retreat Equipment
Retreats offer a variety of activities, and sometimes it’s nice to take your own equipment that you feel comfortable with. Whether that be yoga mats or free diving gear. It’s always a good idea to double check with the retreat on what they provide, and check in with yourself on what you’re comfortable using. You can also view in each retreat profile on The Good Index what activities are included. That will give you a better idea of the gear to bring.
5. Toiletries
Kind of self-explanatory. Whether it’s your full morning or night skincare routine, your electric toothbrush, or organic body wash, bring your essentials and more. We recommend using the retreat experience as an opportunity to do the things you don’t normally have time for. Think teeth whitening, foot pumice stone, hair and face masks. Or, on the contrary, an opportunity to forget all routine and responsibilities and let your hair and face be.
6. A Good Book
Most of our retreats have plenty of down time for you to sink your teeth into your favorite read. Alternatively, you could pick out a new book just for your next retreat. Check out our latest gift guide for the perfect wellness retreat read to add to your retreat packing list.
7. Your Favorite Water Bottle
Having your own water bottle at hand will encourage you to keep up the fluids and stay feeling fresh and hydrated throughout. Staying hydrated during a retreat is key, as the processes and activities involved can be thirsty work!
8. Sunscreen
As many of us know Australia’s UV rays are very harmful, that’s why SPF is a MUST. Many retreats have you outdoors exploring nature, so you’ll likely be exposed to harsh UV rays for large portions of the day. For added protection, also pack your favorite sunglasses and a hat!
9. An Open Mind
Aside from the comfortable clothes and toiletries, an essential to bring with you is an open mind. A retreat is all about mind, body, and spirit. You can expect personal growth and reflection, so come ready to receive and let our retreats do the rest!
The Good Index is Australia’s leading retreat guide, created to inspire you to take a break with health as your number one priority. One platform with hundreds of wellness destinations to discover. Reconnect with what’s important to you and experience the benefits of retreats first hand.
